Consistency Without Desire

"Consistency without desire". Of all the wisdom shared within the Tao Te Ching, this line finds its way back to me time and again.
Students often share with me their goals for training. I can relate to the honest intent that underscores these aspirations, especially in regards to healing from trauma of some form or another. We all wish to feel whole and content with our lives and life choices.
But when it comes to training, Taoist adepts have long advised: Leave your hopes and dreams at the door for they can only limit your potential.
Find contentment in the place in which you find yourself now and don't be in a rush to achieve anything. Take each day at a time, each practice session at a time ... consistently, without projecting into the future or lamenting about the past.
In this short video, I discuss the two primary reasons why people aren't able to maintain consistency in their training.
