I Ching Art of Change for Body, Mind & Qi

Grandmaster Liu Hung Chieh

At age 14, Liu Hung Chieh was formerly initiated into the Original Beijing Bagua School by Chen Yu Long. Ju Wen Bao first taught Liu bagua's meditation practices. Ma Gui would later build on this foundation in order to teach Liu deeper aspects of Taoist Meditation and the critical qi work of bagua.

After Liu completed his studies in Beijing, he travelled to the mountains of Sichuan Provence, where he studied with Taoist adepts (whom he never named) from the millennia-old monastic bagua tradition, which focuses on developing the energies of the eight guas (of the I Ching) within the Single Palm Change.

The forms we train in the Water School today are primarily derived from Cheng Ting Hua's Dragon Palm, infused with Yin Fu's Willow Leaf Palm, and powered by Ma Gui's qi techniques and meditation practices.

Master Bruce Frantzis

Bruce Frantzis studied bagua, tai chi, neigong and meditation under Master Liu in Beijing in the 1980s. Master Liu passed down bagua, tai chi and Taoist Meditation lineages to Bruce, whom he adopted as his son in order to do so, declaring, "The time for secrets has passed". Liu mentored Bruce closely to fulfill his vision of creating a bridge, from East to West, for the health and spiritual teachings of the Taoist Water Tradition for the benefit of future generations.

Senior Instructor Paul Cavel

Paul Cavel has studied all Eight Bagua Zhang Mother Palms as well as the monastic bagua tradition with Master Bruce in private and public tuition since 1994. He became a senior student in 2004 and has taught Taoist Water Method arts with his teacher's encouragement since 1995. Paul is empowered by Master Bruce to certify instructors in his Energy Arts System.
